Description

The birth flower for August is Gladiolus.
It’s also known as ‘Sward Lilies’ and emerge in Summer with a whole host of colours. They are native to South Africa.
The name ‘Gladiolus’ comes from the Latin term ‘Gladius’ meaning the sward .
According to Roman Leagends two warriors captured by a Roman commander, and he ordered to make gladiator from them, promising the winner of life. But they were best friends and refused to fight each other. For this , they were killed. From their blood droplets rose beautiful flowers – gladiolus, the leaves of which were like swords, and flowers like purple blood. therefore gladiolus are a symbol of strength, loyalty pride and friendship.
